Around the World is the first book to portrait and explain how today is by using infographics only, and our infographic “A Visual Guide to New Year’s Resolutions” is part of this publication.
Published by the prestigious German editorial Gestalten, Around the world is a book that first impresses on sight by holding it in your hands, seen its quality, size and hardcover. But the real thrill begins when we start to go through the pages of the book, and discover how they’ve transformed the traditional concept of “atlas” in a specially visual publication that helps us discover the world around us.
Large graphics on spread pages help us behold and understand every piece’s message, wether it be a visual story or data visualization. Minimalist design and data visualization stand out in this publication, conveying factual information and allowing the reader draw their own conclusions from the observed data or information.
Our infographic for Around the World
The graphic that we designed, “A Visual Guide to New Year’s Resolutions”, was developed on the occasion of the 2012 New Year, commissioned by Lee Sherman, Chief Content Officer from Visual.ly, the world’s biggest infographic and data visualization community, located on San Francisco, California.
There was a lot of information and data compiled by Visual.ly, so we decided to focus on a main story which ramifies to other small stories. However in the beginning we gave a few turns before finding the right concept for this graphic, for example, our first sketch focused on an illustration the different New Year’s goals, such as stop smoking, weight loss or pay debts. Subsequently we saw that the illustration was inconsistent because it was just a visual claim but ultimately offered nothing from the informative point of view.
Finally, with two sketches on the table, we decided to take the main idea from the loss of interest on the goals and add to that the most desired goals from the first sketch, combining the best from both sketches. Then we produced the final graphic and it was published by Visual.ly on they virtual portfolio.
Today, the “A Visual Guide to New Year’s Resolutions” infographic has been seen more than 33 thousand times, and share many times in social networks, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Pinterest and Linkedin mainly.
